08-10-2011 We're currently in Sweden for the Nordic and Baltic Sea Residency - M.A.R.I.N. 2011. We're part of a group of international artists investigating 'Cartography and the Everyday at Sea'. The residency started out in Flørli and Stavanger, Norway with i/o/lab, moved to Kultivator in Sweden, and will finish up at the end of the month at Nida Art Colony in Lithuania.
Now we're staying at the beautiful Kultivator - an experiment in bringing together agriculture and art. It's mintues from the sea on the island of Öland, a larg-ish island filled with farms, ancient ruins, and seasonal holiday makers.
As you can see, we're trying hard to look and act like serious artists:

Specifically, we're developing an Android smartphone application that will give visitors to the seashore an opportunity to record and playback their experiences - of course, being an exercise in mapping, this app will also utilize GPS. When people reach specific geographic points, the app will playback the sonic entry created for that location.
We're also going to create some 'walks' with the app, too ... interviewing locals about the places where they live and work... more to follow soon.
